News24 reported on 26 March 2021 that: 9 former Sol Plaatje workers were released on bail after allegedly defrauding the municipality of R1.6m.

On 17 February 2023, the Court considered the plea agreement of the accused and the sentence the parties agreed upon. The Court was satisfied that the Accused admitted the allegations in the charges and was guilty of the offenses in respect of which the agreement was entered into. The Court was satisfied that the sentence agreement was just. The Accused was accordingly convicted as charged and sentenced in accordance with the sentence agreement.

An application for a confiscation order in terms of Section 18 of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act, 121 of 1998 as amended (POCA) to the amount of R778 864.54 was approved by the Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions (Asset Forfeiture Unit) and made an order of the Court. In terms of Section 23(1)(b) of POCA, the order shall have the effect of a civil judgment.
